Carpooling with the shortlist

  • Updated

The carpool shortlist allows Riders and Drivers to discover carpool matches after the standard Scoop matching period ends.

Using the carpool shortlist as a Rider

If your trip request is not matched or your carpool is canceled, you’ll automatically be added to the carpool shortlist, which is a pool of unmatched Riders.

While you’re on the shortlist

  • Drivers in your area can view your approximate route and requested pickup time window.

  • A Driver may schedule a carpool with you using any time within your original request window, as long as you receive at least 30 minutes’ notice before the trip begins.

  • If a Driver creates a match, it is automatically accepted on your behalf.

You can remove yourself from the carpool shortlist at any time before you’re matched. If you remain on the shortlist, your request will automatically expire 30 minutes before the latest time in your requested window.

To improve your chances of matching, you can update your pickup time window while on the shortlist.

If a match created from the shortlist is canceled by either commuter, it will follow Scoop’s standard Cancellation Policy.

Important notes for Riders

  • If another Rider has a similar trip request, Scoop may also pair you together so a Driver can create a 3-person carpool.

  • Your preferred pickup time is no longer displayed on the shortlist; Drivers will see your entire request window.

  • Riders on the shortlist cannot switch their mode to Drive.

Using the carpool shortlist as a Driver

The carpool shortlist is a pool of unmatched Riders in your area who are still looking for a carpool.

As a Driver, you can access the carpool shortlist when

  • The normal matching period ends and you are unmatched, even if you did not schedule a trip for that period.

  • Your first scheduled carpool is fully canceled by the matched Rider(s).

Drivers do not have access to the carpool shortlist after removing a single Rider from an existing three-person carpool. Drivers also cannot add shortlist Riders to an existing match.

Which route is used for the shortlist

  • If you scheduled a trip request before the matching period, the shortlist will be based on the pickup and drop-off addresses used for that trip.

  • If you did not schedule a trip request, the shortlist will default to your saved Home-to-Work route.

Selecting Riders from the shortlist

  • You may select a carpool with one Rider or select a pre-paired set of two Riders from the “2 Riders” tab.

  • Drivers cannot create their own pair of Riders from the “1 Rider” tab.

Any carpool created from the shortlist must use a pickup time within the Rider’s original request window that provides at least 30 minutes’ notice before the trip begins.

Once a carpool is created from the shortlist, the trip is officially confirmed and follows Scoop’s standard Cancellation Policy.

Information available in the shortlist

When reviewing the carpool shortlist, Drivers will be able to see the following details for each available Rider:

  • Rider name
  • Employer (if applicable)
  • The Rider’s requested pickup time range
  • The Rider’s general route

To protect commuter privacy, specific pickup and drop-off addresses are not displayed until the carpool is created. Drivers also cannot access Rider contact information until the trip has been officially matched.

How does this impact backup commute?

If your employer sponsors backup commute options, then 30 minutes after the scheduling deadline, you will become eligible for backup commutes. You will remain on the shortlist until you claim your ride credit, delete your shortlist request, or your request expires.

Once you choose to claim your ride credit, your shortlist request will be deleted. If you delete your shortlist request within the first 30 minutes of the scheduling deadline, you will be notified once backup commute options become available.

📝Note: The carpool shortlist is currently unavailable for commuters using Shift Scheduling. Shift scheduling is only available for commuters whose employers are a part of a specific Enterprise carpool Program. If your employer is a part of a program offering Shift Scheduling, you will see it within the Scoop app.
