Why does Scoop need my credit card?

  • Updated

For each Scoop carpool, Riders contribute toward the cost of the commute and Drivers receive a reimbursement. When you schedule as a Rider for the first time, you’ll be asked to add a valid credit or debit card before you can take a trip.

📝Note: If you only intend to use Scoop as a Driver, you are not required to add a credit/debit card.

Even if you receive promotional pricing, employer-sponsored benefits, or a group discount, all Riders are still required to have a payment method on file. This is because there are certain situations where a charge may still apply, such as:

  • Your commute details change

  • You schedule a trip outside of your primary work location

  • A cancellation fee is incurred

Having a card on file ensures your trips can continue without interruption in these cases.

How payments work

Scoop is not a subscription service. You’re only charged for the trips you take or any applicable cancellation fees. We do our best to make pricing as clear and transparent as possible. Before scheduling any carpool, you’ll always see the exact price or reimbursement amount in the app, so you know what to expect before taking a trip.

Charges are processed on a weekly basis, so your Scoop Balance may temporarily appear negative until the weekly charge is completed.

You can view your current balance and payment activity at any time in the app. Learn more about how to view your Scoop Balance.

📢Important: Prepaid cards, temporary debit or credit cards, and transit benefits cards (such as WageWorks) are not supported and cannot be used as a payment method with Scoop. Each card may only be associated with one Scoop account.
